Quick answer
Stock BepInEx cannot load plugins in Moon Sweepers. The game ships IL2CPP metadata version 108, and the Cpp2IL bundled with BepInEx stops at 106, so it fails with Unsupported metadata version found! We support 23-106, got 108 and no plugin is ever loaded. You need a patcher, and there are currently two separate loader ecosystems that are not interchangeable.
Decide which one a mod needs before you install anything. A mod from the wrong ecosystem looks exactly like a broken mod.
The metadata 108 problem
Moon Sweepers is a Unity 6000.6 game compiled with IL2CPP. To inject plugins, BepInEx has to generate interop assemblies by reading the game's metadata file — and the version of Cpp2IL bundled with BepInEx only understands metadata up to 106.
The community fix is a preloader patcher that runs before plugins load and does three things:
- Generates interop assemblies by reading types, fields and methods from the live IL2CPP runtime instead of parsing
global-metadata.dat, then feeds them to Il2CppInterop's generator the way Cpp2IL would have. Roughly one second to dump, ten seconds to generate, and it re-runs automatically when the game updates. - Fixes Il2CppInterop's view of Unity 6000.6 classes — the internal
Il2CppClasslayout changed in this Unity version, which otherwise breaks class injection withBase class Il2CppSystem.Object is value type. - Repairs broken method references in the generated assemblies, such as
ReadOnlySpan.GetPinnableReference, which otherwise throwMissingMethodExceptionin some Unity APIs.
ConfirmedThe Cpp2IL error is expected, not a failure
BepInEx\LogOutput.log will still show BepInEx's own Cpp2IL complaint about metadata version 108. The patcher takes over right after it. A successful start ends with Chainloader startup complete — that line is your proof, not the absence of the error. Two loader routes that do not mix
This is the part that costs people an evening. There are two independent ways to run mods, and individual mods are built for one or the other.
| BepInEx route | Standalone loader route | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | BepInEx 6.0.0-be.791 (Unity.IL2CPP win-x64) plus a metadata patcher | A single one-click mod loader packaged by its author |
| Where plugins go | BepInEx\plugins | The loader's own Mods folder |
| Setup effort | Manual: download BepInEx, extract, add patcher, first launch 15 s slower | Install and undo in one click, no internet needed |
| Mods that use it | Landmark Radar, Work Area Lines, Belt Overdrive, Machine Overclock, Vehicle Camera Fix, Moon Teleport, Sell x3 | Team Upgrades and the author's other plugins |
| Main risk | Easy to get the folder layout wrong and see nothing load | A mod built for BepInEx will not appear if you install it here |
The practical rule: read the mod's own Requirements section and follow that route. Do not assume one loader covers everything, and do not install both into the same game folder without a backup.
NoteSave editors are a third category
What mods exist
Eleven files are currently published, and they fall into four groups: the two loaders, the metadata patcher, gameplay plugins, and one save editor.
| Mod | What it does | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Moon Sweepers BepInEx Patcher | The metadata 108 fix described above. Required before any BepInEx plugin will load. Does not change the game itself. | BepInEx base |
| MOON SWEEPERS MOD LOADER | One-click loader, no internet connection required, easy to undo. Required by Team Upgrades and the author's other plugins. | Standalone |
| Team Upgrades | Makes tool purchases, container upgrades, upgrade-tree unlocks and inventory tiers apply to the whole crew instead of only the buyer. | Standalone |
| Landmark Radar | Radar for flags, landing sites and stations, with surface distances and optional beams. Plugin only — it ships no loader. | BepInEx |
| Work Area Lines | Draws the vehicle's real cleaning width on the ground, including upgrades and current suction level. Toggle with F8. | BepInEx |
| Belt Overdrive | Adds a four-level Logistics upgrade: +25/50/100/150% belt speed, up to 2.75 m/s. Cargo and belt walking follow the new speed. | BepInEx |
| Machine Overclock | Four-level Economy upgrade for the Pressure Chamber and Stone Press. At max, sand takes 4.8 s instead of 12 s and stone 2.4 s instead of 6 s. | BepInEx |
| Vehicle Camera Fix | Stops the camera auto-recentring while driving, widens the pitch range and makes it follow slopes. F10 returns to the stock camera. | BepInEx |
| Moon Teleport | Teleport to base, garages, stations, map markers and your own named points, on foot or with the vehicle you are driving. English and German. | BepInEx |
| Sell x3 | Multiplies income by three. Small, single-purpose plugin. | BepInEx |
| More Money - Save Editor | Adds money to the crew wallet by editing the save file rather than the game. Automatic backup and one-click restore. | Save editor |

Installing a mod
The BepInEx route, in order. Skipping a step usually produces a game that launches normally and simply ignores your plugins.
- Download BepInEx 6.0.0-be.791, Unity.IL2CPP win-x64, from the official BepInEx bleeding-edge builds page.
- Extract it into the game's root folder, next to the game executable.
- Extract the patcher so the DLL ends up at
BepInEx\patchers\MoonSweepers.ModEngine\MoonSweepers.ModEngine.dll. - Launch the game once. The first start takes about 15 seconds longer while interop assemblies are generated.
- Confirm
BepInEx\LogOutput.logends withChainloader startup complete. - Only now drop plugin DLLs into
BepInEx\plugins.
For the standalone loader route, extract its archive into the game folder and run its installer. Mods then go into that loader's own Mods folder, which is a different location from BepInEx\plugins.
TipConfiguration lives in plain text files
.cfg file under BepInEx\config on first launch. Work Area Lines, for example, exposes its toggle key, line length, width and colours there. Editing the config is safer than reinstalling the mod.Mods in co-op
The rule depends on what the mod actually touches.
- Client-side cosmetic mods are safe to differ. Work Area Lines only draws lines on your own screen for the vehicle you are driving. Your crewmates see nothing, and nothing breaks.
- Gameplay mods need to agree with the host. Moon Teleport is labelled co-op untested by its author, which is an honest warning rather than a guarantee.
- The upgrade economy is host-authoritative. Since patch 1.0.3 the whole crew uses the host's upgrade matrix, so a mod that changes upgrade behaviour only produces the same result for everyone if the host runs it.
Watch outVersion mismatch is the usual culprit
Saves, updates and uninstalling
Do three things before your first mod, in this order.
- Update the game to 1.0.4 or later so automatic backups are active. Five backups per slot, taken a minute into each session and then every 30 minutes, stored in
AppData\LocalLow\DragDropGames\MoonSweepers\Backups. - Copy that Backups folder somewhere outside AppData. A cloud sync problem or a bad uninstall should not be able to take your world with it.
- Test in a separate save slot. Never your main world, and never a world other people are playing in.
Several mod authors state that removing their mod is save-safe, and the ones that add upgrades to the tree are designed that way deliberately. Check the individual mod page before removing one from a save you care about.
Watch outSaves do not go backwards
Where to download
Moon Sweepers mods are published on Nexus Mods, which handles hosting, virus scanning, version history and update notifications:
BepInEx itself comes from the official bleeding-edge builds page, not from Nexus. Take BepInEx 6.0.0-be.791, Unity.IL2CPP win-x64 — the exact build the patcher is written against.
If you want a faster economy without any of this, the automation guide covers the in-game version and the money guide covers the multipliers you already have.
