What it is
The premise is a joke told completely straight. The Lunar Surface Department has an entire Moon to clean and a budget that covers one toothbrush. You are the crew sent to do it. The game never winks at you about this — it simply hands you a brush and a very large dusty surface.
Under the joke is a progression game with three distinct phases: manual cleaning with hand tools, vehicle-based clearing, and factory automation. Each phase makes the previous one feel deliberately primitive.

The core loop
Sweep dust, pack it into a capsule, carry it to a depot, launch a shipment, and spend the money on better equipment. That is the whole game for the first hour, and it stays the whole game later — machines just perform the middle steps without you.
Three materials, one chain
Dust is not simply sold. It can be processed into Moon Sand at three times the value, and combined with more dust into Moonstone at seven times. Both conversions cost power rather than money, which makes power generation an income upgrade in disguise.
How progression escalates
The game has a fairly clear four-stage structure, and knowing it helps you avoid spending money on the wrong stage.
| Stage | Tool | Money comes from | New problem |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opening | Toothbrush to Household Broom | Manual dust plus hex bonuses | Walking distance |
| Manual mid | Wide and Extra Wide Brooms | Dust volume and region bonuses | Container capacity |
| Vehicle | Push Sweeper to Mega Vacuum Rover | Large loads cleaned fast | Unloading and transport |
| Automation | Robot Vacuums and J.O.O.N.A.S. | Processed material, unattended | Power and bottlenecks |
The transitions are not gates — you can buy a vehicle before the Extra Wide Broom, or a Pressure Chamber before a vehicle. But the problems each stage introduces are what the next stage solves, and buying out of order usually means paying for a solution to a problem you do not have yet.
TipThe most common progression mistake
Co-op and solo
Moon Sweepers supports single-player and online co-op for up to 16 players. Money is shared, and since patch 1.0.3 upgrades are shared too. There is no split-screen and no crossplay.
Sixteen is an unusual number for this genre, and it changes the game in a specific way: large crews stop being about cleaning faster and start being about logistics. Someone has to keep the belts running while everyone else drives around.

Tone and pacing
The game is tagged Relaxing, Comedy and Job Simulator on Steam, and that combination is accurate. There is no combat, no fail state, and no timer. The pressure is entirely self-imposed: you want the next upgrade, and the next upgrade costs more than you have.
The pacing does have a rough patch. The first twenty minutes are slow by design — the toothbrush holds almost nothing, and trips to the depot dominate. Players who judge it in that window tend to bounce. Players who reach the Household Broom usually stay.
NoteA fair warning about launch state
Who it is for
You will probably like it if you enjoy visible progress, tidying games, factory chains, or playing a low-stakes co-op game while talking with friends.
You will probably bounce if you want combat, narrative, or a game that respects your time from minute one. The opening is deliberately silly-slow, and the 100% completion goal is measured in hundreds of hours.

Trailers for this game are honest about the loop and quiet about the grind, which is the usual arrangement. Watch the official one for tone, then a longer creator session for the pacing.
